Mitchell's 15-year-old friend Angela was killed in a tragic vehicle crash on April 11 in 1997. Mitchell had a very difficult moment and Angela was the inspiration for her music Angel in the album she released her debut. Her book Chicken Soup, for the Preteen Soul & the 7th Heaven episode No One Endures But Change also featured her writing about the event. Mitchell's closest friend Angela aged 15 years old at the time of her death in an accident with a vehicle, also wrote about this incident. Mitchell was unable to cope with the loss and Angela was the inspiration for the song Angel that is featured on Mitchell's debut album. Her book Chicken Soup For the Preteen Soul, and 7th Heaven's Episode "Nothing Endures But Change" include her personal story of the incident.
